The strumming pattern you’ll learn here is one of the most powerful ones you can know so it gets my top recommendation. It’ll work perfectly across a wide range of songs, in many different musical genre’s and at many different speeds too! In short… it gives you the maximum “bang for your buck”.
The secret is to create a lot of definition within each chord shape by isolating either 1, or in this case, 2 bass notes within each chord. This results in a PRO strumming sound and will instantly lift your playing to a new level.
Specific examples of the many songs you could apply this strum to include…
- Heart Of Gold – Neil Young
- Boulevard Of Broken Dreams – Greenday
- Hey Joe – Jimi Hendrix
- Wild World – Cat Stevens
- Father and Son – Cat Stevens
- Like A Rolling Stone – Bob Dylan
- Your Song – Elton John
- First Cut Is The Deepest – Sheryl Crow or Cat Stevens
- Weather With You – Crowded House
… along with 100’s of others.
Make sure that once you have the strum looping at a slow tempo you upload the file that accompanies this lesson into the Practice Software where you’ll be able to drill it to drums and bass in various progressions at whatever tempo you desire.
This is the fastest way to make the strum become second-nature and automatic which is always the end goal of anything we try to learn on guitar.
