With all the techniques that you can do with a guitar (including the crazy stuff people do with the guitar, i.e. attaching chainsaws) nowadays, you can get confused with which technique you should learn first. Well, actually, you could simply learn anything you want, it’s up to you, cops won’t come knocking in your door just because you picked the wrong guitar technique but as I always advice you guys in my posts to start with a slow pace and it is synonymous to starting with the easiest and that’s common sense, no need to remind you that if you are smart enough. So get you starting with the basics, here are some basic techniques.
- Bend / Release – do the bend and then release it.
- Hammer – on – pluck the first note on the string and produce the next note by hammering it.
- Slide – pluck a string to produce a note then slide it up or down to the next note.
- Bend – on a string, play one note and then bend the string up until you get to the next note.
- Pull – off – pluck first note then produce the next note by pulling it down a lower fret.
- Palm Muting – Gently apply contact with the string using your palm and strum or pluck the string to produce a muted or muffed sound.
- Vibrato – bend the string slightly and unbend, do this repeatedly and quickly.
Well, I guess these are the basic things that you should learn before you go to intermediate level of guitar playing. Ciao!
