A final revision of your beginner guitar lessons
At the end of the four beginner guitar lessons which make up the foundation of the Guitar in a Nutshell method it can be tempting to want to rush into songs. The ability to play songs immediately after finishing the lessons is certainly realistic however I would also like to extend to you a word of caution. If you really want to maximise the impact and effectiveness of what you’ve learned then spend at least a week in the Practice Module of the website. The aim here will be to DRILL, DRILL, DRILL the progressions and strums until they are as so well learned that it’s impossible for you to make a mistake. Once that process is complete these beginner guitar lessons will have done their first job - to give you a very stable and reliable platform from which to learn more and more.
Remember that learning guitar, practicing guitar and playing guitar are all 3 distinctly different things!
When you are a beginner guitarist the process should come in that order. First you learn. You learn the chords. strums, connectors and other basics. They you work in the Practice Module with the drum tracks to drill the material until it is so well learnt that it becomes automatic and second nature. Lastly you actually play guitar through learning songs. In that ordered process you are giving yourself every chance to become really good on guitar. Yes, it takes patience but if you have the desire to be confident on guitar and escape the level of beginner guitar lessons then it’s the only way.
A lot can also depend on your level of expertise on guitar before you came to Guitar in a Nutshell. For example, if you are someone who has been playing for a year or more before coming to the site and already know some chords and strumming patterns then the chances are that you’ll fly through the lessons and into songs very quickly. If however you are a novice and genuinely need beginner guitar lessons to take you from zero then you need to proceed with a little more caution. The last thing you want is to overload yourself by expecting too much too soon, trying to rush your progress and worst of all… trying to play things which are too hard for your current level. Doing that is a one way street to failure on guitar.
The best advice I can give is to do the right thing by yourself. If you feel confident enough to go immediately into songs then by all means do it and combine learning songs with the rest of the lessons on the website. If however you are starting from scratch on beginner guitar lessons then be kind to yourself, take your time and do your practice. By following a logical approach to learning guitar your progress will be much more secure and you’ll be rewarded with a solid guitar playing style which will stay with you for life.
